Certain sexually transmitted infections do not always present with symptoms and can develop into more serious conditions if left untreated. Most STI’s can be tested for using blood or urine.

Chlamydia

Chlamydia is currently the most common sexually transmitted disease in the UK with a large portion of those with chlamydia remaining symptomless. Chlamydia is transmitted from the bacteria chlamydia trachomatis and if left untreated it can cause significant reproductive problems.

Gonorrhea

If left untreated gonorrhea can result in reproductive problems, it is caused by the Neisseria gonorrhoeae bacteria.

Hepatitis B Surface Antigen

This test is used to diagnose if a person is currently infectious. Hepatitis B Surface Antigen (HBsAg) are produced in the body by the hepatitis B virus. This virus results in liver infection and is spread via bodily fluids, including blood.

Hepatitis C Antibodies

Hepatitis C Antibodies (HCAg) are Produced by the immune system post-exposure to hepatitis C. this test determines if a person has previously been exposed to hepatitis C which is a virus which results in a liver infection.

HIV 1&2 Antibodies

After exposure to HIV the immune system produces HIV 1&2 antibodies, this test is used to measure the presence of antibodies being produced that would be a response to HIV exposure. HIV damages cells in the immune system and reduces the body’s ability to fight infection and disease.

Syphilis IgM/IgG

Following exposure to syphilis the body produces syphilis IgM/IgG. IgM are antibodies that are the first form of response to syphilis and are used to indicate current infection. Whereas IgG are antibodies that are produced following exposure to syphilis and are used as an indicator of long-term immunity that the body creates.
