Total Cholesterol

The measurement of cholesterol, including low-density and high–density lipoprotein cholesterol, is total cholesterol. Total cholesterol is used to produce hormones, this test is used to estimate the risk of developing heart disease.

High Density Lipoprotein (HDL)

High Density Lipoprotein (HDL) tests are used to estimate the risk of developing heart disease. HDL is ‘good’ cholesterol as its main function is to aid in the removal of cholesterol from the heart’s arteries.

Low Density Lipoprotein (LDL)

Low Density Lipoprotein (LDL) tests are used to estimate the risk of developing heart disease. LDL is ‘bad’ cholesterol as it causes blockages and cholesterol build-ups in the arteries.

Total Cholesterol: HDL Ratio

The Total Cholesterol: HDL Ratio test is used to estimate your risk of developing heart disease. The Total Cholesterol: HDL Ratio is a calculation used to highlight the amount of ‘good’ cholesterol present in the body. HDL aids in the removal of cholesterol from the heart’s arteries.

Non-HDL Cholesterol

Non-HDL Cholesterol is the number of total cholesterols that lack the ‘good’ high-density lipoprotein (HDL).NON-HDL cholesterol tests are used to investigate the lipid profile during the estimation the risk of developing heart disease.

Triglyceride

Triglyceride is a fat stored in the body’s tissues and can be derived from butter and oils. Triglyceride tests are used to investigate the lipid profile during the estimation the risk of developing heart disease.

Diabetes (1 Biomarkers)

In order to confirm if you currently have or are at risk of developing diabetes your levels of HbA1c is checked. If left undiagnosed or unmanaged diabetes can lead to death. For those who already have a diabetes diagnosis regular HbA1c checks are essential.

HbA1c (Glycosylated Hemoglobin)

This test is used to measure the average blood sugar level over the past two to three months and is a common diabetes diagnostic test. The sugar investigated is called glucose, glucose builds uo in the blood and binds to the red blood cells hemoglobin. HbA1c test will then measure how much glucose is bound and is used during the diagnoses of diabetes.

Thyroid Stimulating Hormone

Thyroid Stimulating Hormone (TSH) are made by the pituitary gland in the brain to stimulate the thyroid gland (located by the throat). The hormones that are produced are used to regulate weight, body temperature and muscle strength. Levels of TSH are measured as it is an indicator of thyroid disease and is commonly tested with Free T4 and Free T3.

Free T4 (throxine)

Free T4 (free thyroxine) is a hormone produced by the thyroid gland. This hormone is involved in several body functions including metabolism and growth. It can be used for the diagnosis of thyroid diseases such as hypothyroidism or hyperthyroidism as well as aiding the diagnosis of female infertility problems. Free T4 is commonly tested with Free T3 and TSH.

Oestradiol

Oestradiol is a form of oestrogen and the main female hormone produced by non-pregnant women. It can also be used to diagnose the cause of precocious and delayed puberty in girls as well as used to monitor hormone replacement therapy in peri-pausal and menopausal women.

Follicular Stimulating Hormone

Follicular Stimulating Hormone (FSH) a reproductive hormone that is produced by the pituitary gland in the brain. FSH stimulates the growth and development of unfertilised eggs during the menstrual cycle in women and initiates the production of sex hormones such as oestradiol and progesterone. FSH is also used to stimulate the production of sperm in men. The FSH hormone is often tested with other sex hormones such as LH, testosterone, oestradiol and progesterone for diagnose infertility and pituitary gland disorders in men and women.

Luteinizing Hormone

Luteinizing Hormone (LH) is a reproductive hormone that is produced by the pituitary gland in the brain. This hormone is used to regulate the menstrual cycle and ovulation by stimulating the ovaries to produce other reproductive hormones in females whereas in men, LH stimulates and controls testosterone. The LH test is used to determine any reproductive problems.

Prolactin

Prolactin is a hormone produced by the pituitary glands in the brain. The main role of prolactin is to promote lactation (breast milk production) in women during pregnancy and after childbirth. A prolactin test is used to diagnose infertility in both men and women as well as menstrual problems and erectile dysfunction.

Prostate (1 Biomarkers)

The prostate produces a fluid that mixes with sperm to make semen. Issues with the prostate are common particularly as men get older and can lead to serious conditions such as prostate cancer if undiagnosed.

Total Prostate Specific Antigen

Total Prostate Specific Antigen is the total amount of prostate specific antigen being produced by the cells in the prostate gland. This test is used to detect and monitor the treatment response of prostate cancer.
